Oban to Belfast

A west coast passage through Crinan, Gigha and Islay, then across the North Channel to Belfast Harbour.

Outline plan: Routes, anchorages and timings remain weather and tide dependent. The aim is to make steady progress and leave an easy final day into Belfast.
  1. Sat 5 Sep

    Oban · joining day

    Helen joins Nimrod. Her bus is due to arrive at either 15:19 or 19:28.

  2. Sun 6 Sep

    Oban → Anchorage

    First day south from Oban. Stop at an anchorage somewhere short of Crinan, with the exact location chosen around conditions.

  3. Mon 7 Sep

    Anchorage → Crinan

    Sail to Crinan. Yen travels up from London and joins during the afternoon. Lock into the Crinan Sea Lock and spend the night in the basin.

  4. Tue 8 Sep

    Crinan → Gigha

    Lock back out to sea and head south to Gigha.

    Around 25–30 nm
  5. Wed 9 Sep

    Gigha → Islay

    Continue south to Islay.

    Around 20–25 nm
  6. Thu 10 Sep

    Islay → Northern Ireland

    Cross the North Channel and get as far down the coast as practical rather than stopping early at Glenarm. This should leave a straightforward final day into Belfast.

  7. Fri 11 Sep

    Northern Ireland → Belfast Harbour

    A shorter final passage into Belfast Harbour Marina.

  8. Sat 12 Sep

    Belfast · departures

    Helen flies from Belfast City (BHD) to Birmingham at 10:10. Paul flies from Belfast International (BFS) to Southampton at 10:30, arriving at 11:45. Yen stays aboard Nimrod in Belfast.
